Helping to keep families close to each other and the care and resources they need
Members Cooperative Credit Union staff recently toured Minnesota’s fifth and newest Ronald McDonald House®, which opened its doors in downtown Duluth earlier this year and was funded in part by a donation from MCCU.
Ronald McDonald House Northland (RMH Northland) provides a comfortable and supportive home-away-from-home environment for families across the Northland region who are navigating a child’s major illness or injury. By providing complimentary private lodging, volunteer-cooked meals, laundry facilities, and other day-to-day resources in a welcoming, homey environment, the Duluth facility helps families stay together while a child receives inpatient treatment at Essentia Health.
“We recently had the privilege of visiting the Ronald McDonald House in Duluth,” said Steve Ewers, CEO of MCCU. “What an awesome place! It was inspiring to learn more about their facility, its community impact, and their future plans. We’re extremely fortunate to have this organization in the Northland, and MCCU is proud to support their work.”
MCCU’s donation of $20,000 through the Essentia Health Foundation helped provide important amenities for Ronald McDonald House guests, including a beautiful modern kitchen for preparing meals, as well as technological elements like flat-screen televisions and a cozy electric fireplace for the lounge area to help family members relax and take a break from the hospital environment.
RMH Northland is still raising funds toward the project, which cost about $1.2 million to construct and will require about $325,000 per year in operational costs. Visit RMH Northland online to learn more.
